Keynote very sluggish

Oct 23, 2006 8:31AM PDT

I'm having a real problem using Keynote -- every operation is slow. Have to wait for the typing to catch up etc. (I have experienced something similar in Pages).

I'm using a TiBook G4 400 with 384Mb RAM and I have tried it with NO OTHER apps running.

I do a lot of PowerPoint work and PP really flies. Similarly Phbotoshop and other graphics apps. I know my TiBook is getting on a bit but it is only in these iWork apps that I experience real problems..

There are a few reports of this around but not many.

Can anyone suggest what might be the cause of this unusual behaviour -- or are others experiencing something similar?

Have you tried anything

to resolve this? The normal starting points are Repairing permissions and Verifying the hard drive.

How much available hard drive space do you have, by the way?

Sluggish Keynote and RAM etc (reply)

8-9 Gb on the HDD. I've done the usual permissions/caches/cron scripts etc (YASU).
Memory Stick shows a bit of unused RAM if I just run keynote on its own but I am hearing from others that I am pushing my luck to have only 384MB RAM -- and I'm running 10.4.8. I've just ordered another SODIMM which shoukld double the RAM

the RAM increase won't hurt,

that's for sure... and while even more would be better... let us know if this resolves you issue - or not...

How large is the hard drive?

40 gigs. I had an external HDD but my son dropped it so that was that. Thinking of getting another one although not urgent as I back up to dot mac.

Have heard from another poster on an English forum that there is a specific issues with Keynote/Pages and the G4 Titanium Powerbooks. Could be to do with the rather limited on-board graphics and need to render Quartz in these apps. So I may not overcome this without some new kit.
