Keynote/PPS slide shows

by 15 heidi / December 2, 2009 11:27 PM PST

Do you know of a program that will allow my Mac (Snow Leopard) to play the music included with most Windows PPS slide shows. Keynote (a Mac program) displays the slide shows perfectly but I can never get the Music.

One of the major problems with audio in a PowerPoint presentation is that the audio is not embedded in the slide show.
Consequently, it plays on the machine it was created on as the Audio file is also on that machine, but when it is moved to another machine, the audio fails to play because PP cannot find the audio file.

This could be the problem with your PP shows. Have you checked the audio on a Windows machine?

I just got a PPS from a friend and there is no sound.

It's the first one I've received with sound.

This bears more research.

Please, I just ask that you not obliterize me. I work only under Windows, because in my country OS X is nor used at all (wasn't my desition, please?).

But a friend of mine send me a presentation in Keynote in a CD, with extension .key, How can I open it from Windows XP? I haven't find a solution yet.

I change the extension to .zip, unzip it (as all the recently .xml format, it is really a file zipped). So I obtain a file with different extention. But that is all. None of them opens in windows, even when I change the extension to .xml, .pps, or other else.

Please, What can I do?

and tell them to use Keynote to Export the presentation in PPS/PPT format.

That is all you can do.

It seems this hasn't been answered yet: how to play pps files on a Mac, when you receive it in emails from friends? Usually only the visual part plays, but not the audio or slideshow features.

I think the simple answer is: A pps file is a file created by PowerPoint on a PC/Windows machine.

If you have a newer Mac, with iWork 9.+ programs, look for Keynote to see if it will translate the file. Of course you might have to (1) download the file from the email to your desktop or someplace, (2) open the file with Keynote. You might need to update your version of Keynote/iWork.

Hope this finally helps someone.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
