Is very old now. But it does get its 1st of the month canned air cleaning since new. There's that and the banged up OS issue. That is, many keyboard mouse issues can be a sign that some keyboard logger snuck in. Test that by restoring it to factory condition when you are ready.
The age of this isn't helping here. It could be hardware issues. At least you know the 1st of the month routine is or is not being done.

I am a new poster to the CNET world and was looking for some insight on an issue I've been having for about a two weeks now.
I have an HP Pavilion dv-6, I do not remember the specific type, I know they had quite a few dv-6's. I have the A8 with 6GB of RAM and the Radeon "graphics" card. My appologies if this is TL;DR, I'm trying to be very thorough.
Randomly my keyboard, USB mouse, and track-pad will stop responding EXCEPT for CTRL-ALT-Delete and the "fn" keys. From the CTRL+ALT+DEL window my mouse moves freely like there is no issue. I can open task manager, shut down, sleep, anything. Once I close out of that Menu, I can no longer move my mouse.
It's actually ironic, as I was signing up for these forums, I happened to hit TAB to select the next line and noticed I was bringing up my multi-task window (the one that allows you to select between different windows if, say, you were watching a video in full screen or playing a video game) The way that window pops up is with ALT+TAB. So I jiggled both ALT buttons and it no longer brought up the window with just tab.
What I noticed was the keyboard and pad would become unresponsive randomly, so today I opened the CTRL+ALT+DLT window (is there a name for this? Task Window?) and put the computer to sleep. I immediately hit the space-bar and it booted back up. I logged in and continued watching my show. After about 5 minutes I went to pause the show only to find it was unresponsive AGAIN. So I put it to sleep, booted, no issues. Then It happened AGAIN.
Now, I have checked and triple checked my drivers with no issues, no yellow triangles of doom or anything of the sort so I think that leaves those out of the equation. Could my ALT key be causing me to much trouble? The next time it happens I will jiggle both my ALT keys one at a time to see if this fixes my issue and to see which key was the culprit.
Just reaching out for some advice and if anyone else has had this issue.
