Question

Keyboard won't work

Jul 30, 2017 7:41AM PDT

I have issues with my laptop. It is Wearnes Quadra Cl-1422 and I'm using Windows 8. The keyboad stop working after hours of typing. I tried using onscreen keyboard and it didn't work either. Next, I plugged external USB keyboard still it won't work. After some times tried to fix the issues I noticed another issue occured which was, I couldn't open any folder or file by double click them. They all are 'read only'. The only way to open all the folders an files is to left click the mouse and 'open in new window' or 'open'. Desperately, I tried to reinstall my windows after that I turn the laptop off. Unplug the keyboard and clean it properly and plugin it back. When I turn the laptop on, for sometimes the keyboard was working, so did the on screen keyboard and I can open the folders and of files normally. But, when I plugged an external HDD on USB port the same issues of keyboard and read only folders and files happened again. Tried to reinstall again and repair, the same issues happened again after I tried to plugged an external HDD via USB port. What's wrong with my laptop? Do I have to buy a new keyboard? Can I, possibly having a corrupt BIOS? Or maybe virus issue? Kindly help me with my problem.

Answer
I've never found this to be a BIOS issue.

This sounds closer to a variant of what we call RANSOMWARE. Usually a trojan, rootkit or other OS damage the fix is usually to slip in a new drive, restore the machine to factory condition and copy the user files in from backups and in a pinch the old drive.

Is it a software problem, or a hardware problem? Sounds to me like an intermittent hardware problem, especially since it seems to affect both mouse and keyboard. What type mouse used? Touchpad? USB external? Other?
