Question

Keyboard VG-KBD1000/XS problems with TV UA48J6200AW

Jul 10, 2015 11:56PM PDT

I recently bought this TV and Samsung keyboard as I want to be able to search (and type) with a keyboard instead of arrowing a cursor round the screen. It works ok, although a bit slow with a browser but with other apps like Youtube, the keyboard won't function. My mobile phone is Windows 8 which does not yet have an app to directly play my phone screen to the TV. Apple and Android do have a symbol in the Youtube app which allows connectivity. The TV is connected via LAN to my router and my phone works well on my wi-fi. If anyone has any ideas about this I have a lot more details if required. To make the keyboard work when in a Browser you press Backspace to get rid of the on-screen QWERTY keyboard but this does not work with Youtube or Facebook and many other apps.

Answer
The Youtube app is not from Samsung

So it's up to Google to fix that. And as we've seen they tend to get it working but short on features. Frankly this has lead me to write that all Smart TVs are broken.

Get a TV for the TV, not the dumb smart part.

Found a solution

I have found that if I use the Youtube app I have the above problems. But if I just enter youtube.com in the browser it seems to work ok to a certain extent. The mousepad is slow and on two occasions the TV has actually locked up and I could not even switch the TV off. Had to pull the power plug. Re "Get a TV for the TV, not the dumb smart part" I don't agree. Once I get Youtube working it is much better than viewing it on my computer and I am getting better at using it all the time. Sure, smart TVs have their issues but I'm sure they will all be sorted out with updates. Hope so anyway.

The thing is, the YouTube issues have yet to be sorted.

Remember that the makers are not signing up to fix issues. In fact you can find folk screaming about apps vanishing that used to be on the TV or other appliances.

https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6098135?hl=en is not telling you the full story. But it's the tip of the iceberg.

The business model of TVs doesn't support fixing bugs today. The TVs are produced, sold and then the software team disbanded or sent to work on other projects.

In closing, I have a few bridges left to sell.
