Keyboard USB ports useless after latest upgrade?

by pescado / August 19, 2010 5:02 PM PDT

Has anyone else experienced problems with the USB ports on a wired keyboard since you installed the latest Apple system update? After I ran the update, the keyboard USB ports are getting just 100 mA total; they can't even power a simple flash drive anymore.

I searched the Apple forums and noticed several users complaining about the same thing. The update seems to have made the keyboard USB ports absolutely useless.

I'd love to see CNET look into this; and if the underpowered ports are a common issue, I hope enough people complain for Apple to acknowledge the error and fix this in a subsequent update.

After the update installed and rebooted the machine went into 'searching for mouse' mode. i use an adesso keyboard that has worked great for a couple of years. I hope they fix this soon and that I'll be able to access the new updates without a keyboard.

I was using an Adesso WKB-4000US combination wireless keyboard with touchpad, and it didn't work after the update. So then I plugged in my BTC combination wireless keyboard with trackball, and it did work. SO the USB drivers appear to have become a little bit more picky about what they'll talk with.

Alternative upgrade process

Some times the automatic upgrade ends up with some corruptions. There is one method to ensure that your update installs smoothly, and that is to download the Combo version of the update installer from Apple's support site, and run it from your hard drive.

This often corrects any corruptions that may have crept in.

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
