Unclear how you could do all you did without a keyboard. Can you explain?

So either you need a new keyboard or a new PC. The PC should still have warranty and keyboards aren't so very expensive.

About the PS/2 connection

Many boards have TWO PS/2 connections and these are not interchangeable. Power off then move the keyboard to the other connection as a test.

Just one on the motherboard and it's split color between green and purple?

It's a shame the make/model is not revealed.

I could check this out but why not try some USB keyboard next?

PS/2 is still better for keyboard than USB
Jan 7, 2014 2:20AM PST

Mainly for two reasons.

Older computers don't do well with USB keyboards, some functions available to PS/2 like wakeup may not work correctly.

KVM based on PS/2 work well, but KVM based on USB don't all seem to reveal the USB keyboard to the computer, so again, wakeup functions might not work properly. I have a computer fairly recent motherboard (gigabyte ma78gpm-ud2h) that will NOT wakeup using a USB keyboard on a USB KVM, but does fine with PS/2. I've tried every setting change regarding keyboards and USB functions ni teh BIOS and nothing works, only having an old PS/2 keyboard also connected sitting behind the computer which I lean over and punch a key to wake up the computer. Unfortunately some of the new mobos only have that single PS/2 with the two colors on it, and that moves anyone needing a KVM to the USB side.

Could be but if it's dead then working wins.

Besides it's a new computer with 7 Ultimate so it's a safe bet it's going to support USB keyboards.
