keyboard not working once windowsxp loads

Jun 30, 2007 7:15AM PDT

My Dell keyboard works during boot and login to windowsxp.
once windowsxp loads, keyboard not working.

It is connected correctly to the computer.
I've already deleted keyboard from Device Manager and rebooted.
I've tried using another keyboard.
I've already tried a new USB wireless keyboard.
I've already deleted c:\windows\system32\drivers\i8042prt.sys.
I've already run XoftSpySE and RegCure.

What else can i do??

Is the device manager recognizing the hardware at all?
I have had problems with xp recognizing my mouse after its been disconnected. I know this sounds strange, but I left it plugged into the pc and rebooted a couple of times and it finally works. Glitch maybe?

nope. checked control panel just to be sure .

one thing was interesting; whentrying a wireless usbeyboard, the special buttons on keyboard (email, back page, home page, etc.) all worked. all normal keys still did not work.

You may still need to remove some filters.

Keyboard problem FIXED by creating new user account!
Jun 30, 2007 10:33PM PDT

I contacted Dell and the technician advised me to try logging in with a different user account. When I did, the keyboard worked!

So I logged in as Administrator under Safe Mode and moved all my files from My Documents up to c:. Then we created a new user account and deleted the old one. (The account deletion had an option to transfer all the files and settings, but I did it manually to make sure I got EVERYTHING, including my web favorites, etc.)

IT'S WORKING NOW! I hope this will help someone else.
