Question

Keyboard not responsive

Mar 7, 2013 4:03AM PST

Dell B130 Desktop purchased new 7 years ago. Operating System is Ubuntu 10.04-4 fully up to date.

My keyboard started acting nonresponsive 1st the 'd' then a few weeks later the 'a' for a few days, now no response from any key.

What is my most likely problem?

I have been very satisfied and have had no prior issues with the machine.

Answer
Did you try another keyboard?

I can't tell if this is some USB or PS2 keyboard so unplug and plug back in. For the USB keyboard try another USB port that Dell tells you supports the keyboard.

Keyboard is a PS2 keyboard. I have changed the keyboard.
As to doing a BIOS check of the system will investigate.

As a test. Boot LiveCD, floppy or even get to the BIOS.

Try getting to the BIOS screen. Some Dells have a hardware test there to test the machine.

Keyboard not responsive

The machine is a Dell Diminision B110 desktop.

I tried to boot in to the BIOS but the F2 and F12 keys also are non-responsive.

The keyboard is totally non-responsive.

Since this is a PS2 keyboard.

And other PS2 keyboards don't work the news is grim.

Try some USB keyboard next and it might work in the OS but might not allow BIOS access. Good luck!

Thanks for your insight.
Have no USB keyboard available.
Was getting to same conclusion. May try a new motherboard or
go for another machine and install my hard drive and carry on.
