Question

Keyboard & mouse don't outside safe mode

Sep 19, 2015 10:52AM PDT

Oh god, I've been having this problem for over a week, and I've already been to two forums already.

Here are the two forum posts I've been to:

http://www.computerforum.com/threads/what-cables-do-i-need-for-a-samsung-sh-224db-bebe-disc-drive.235869/
www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/590299/keyboard-mouse-dont-work-inside-windows/

These incompetent idiots on bleeping computer (apt name, because that's how I feel right now) gave me a suggestion that they 100% guaranteed would fix at least the clock issue, and that, if it didn't fix the keyboard-and-mouse issue, it would bring us one step closer to finding a solution for that.

I personally could give a rat's *** about the clock issue! If I can fix the keyboard-and-mouse issue, I can manually adjust the clock.

But, these guys SWORE TO ME that the CMOS battery needed to be replaced, anyway.

Well, I spent a whole day's worth of food buying a new CMOS battery (going hungry for a day in the process), waited an entire week for it to get here. I cleared my BIOS, inserted the new CMOS battery, and .... nothing!

Even the clock got reset, even though that's SUPPOSED to be the one thing they absolutely guaranteed me would be fixed if I did this!

The only reason I'm still resorting to online help is because it's the weekend now, and all the local computer store are closed.

Do you guys have a suggestion? Maybe one that ... actually will solve the keyboard-and-mouse issue first, and any other problems second? Or at the very least ... a suggestion that actually DOES WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO?!

Yes, I've done that. And it hasn't fixed anything.

Listen, are you absolutely SURE it's not driver based? Because I told you: I temporarily had the problem fixed by uninstalling the mouse & keyboard drivers and rebooting!

You know I think it's time to take Bob's advice...

...and reinstall Windows because you've spent far more time on this than it would take to simply back your data up, format your hard drive, and reinstall everything. It's not that hard. Over this past weekend I bought an SSD, partitioned it, and installed Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 on it, reinstalled my applications, and got all 3 systems up to date with Windows Update, then backed them all up to an external hard drive.
Yeah, it's several hours of work, but it's a small fraction of the time you've already spent with little to show for it. If I can do it over a weekend with 3 versions of Windows, you certainly should be able to do it with one. And by the way, I avoid torrents and don't download from anywhere but a few sites I know are safe.
`
Good luck.

Fixed it!

I found the solution I needed.

I needed to A) remove the PUPs using Malwarebytes, and B) uninstall the keyboard & mouse drivers. In that particular order.

Doing that fixed the problem! I'm now in normal windows!

Are both keyboard and mouse PS/2 type?
Sep 28, 2015 6:18PM PDT

Since the motherboard has only a single PS/2 port, are you attempting to use BOTH mouse and keyboard with one of these?

If so, don't. They don't work.

If instead, you are using a USB keyboard, check the settings for USB ports and make sure it's not set to power off the USB port when it's not being used. Too often if set that way, then the keyboard has to be unplugged and plugged back in to reactivate that port.
