This looks like a keyboard and a mouse (of some ports on the motherboard) gone south. Things to try:
- another keyboard, and another mouse
- see if you can get into the BIOS: press f1 or f10 or del or a host of other keys depending on the make of your computer; if it works you hit the right key and your keyboard is working; if it doesn't work either you didn't press the right key at the right moment, or some hardware is broken
- set the BIOS to boot from A: first
- boot from a virus-free boot diskette, and see if the keyboard is detected and working
- depending on the boot diskette, you might have mouse support also (but there must be a DOS-mousedriver installed for that).
I don't really believe in a virus here.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I was on AOL 9.0 last night and all of a sudden my mouse dissappeard so I had to manually shut off. When I reboot, screen read "Keyboard not detected" and Mouse was gone entirely. So when it booted up, I couldn't type and had no mouse so had to manuallly shut off again. I unplugged Keyboard and Mouse and the main power supply, plug back in, and reboot again. Finally it read "Keyboard detected" "Mouse Detected" but was still prompted that Windows98 needed a mouse installed, which I could not get to work properly. So after shutting down again, Keyboard again became undetected and mouse gone entirely. All cables plugged in and I never had this problem before. What would make this happen all of a sudden. Is it a virus from online? Please help. Thanks in advance
