Question

Keyboard driving me crazy

Dell Optiplex 7020
Windows 10 Pro

My keyboard is intermittently not typing some letters. Not the same ones all the time, just randomly. So far I have:

- replaced the keyboard with a brand new Logitech K120
- Powered m/c down and left for 30 minutes
- uninstalled keyboard driver & re-installed

The problem persists on any program (Chrome, Thunderbird, Word etc.) and on all Windows profiles.

I have tried Googling the problem and messed about with a few settings but the issue persists.

Any help would very much be appreciated!

Answer
Let's hear more about this PC.

I did see that trouble on my just gave it away HP D5000T before I upgraded the HDD to SSD.

The reason it dropped was it was just too busy a PC. It only had 2GB RAM so the disk activity was very high. Given it was destined for a poor college student and the price of RAM was too high I opted for another fix. I caught a steal on a SSD for 30ish bucks and now it's smooth as silk. It's only the 120GB SSD so we kept the old rusty HDD as a data drive.

Weird fix.

Let's see a HIJACKTHIS log when this is happening.

Did you tame W10 by turning off the various sharing of Windows Update and maybe more?

Problem Solved

Booted up PC in Safe Mode and the problem was not there. Booted up normally and then shut down all non windows processes one by one. The issue was caused by WLTRAY.exe which I have now disabled from launching at start up. It is described in the Task Manager as 'DW WLAN Card Wireless Network Tray Applet'. Published by Dell.
