Hold down the Alt key and type the number 46 using the numerical keypad, then release the Alt key...a period should then appear.

Hey everyone, I have an old sony vaio laptop that the period key has stopped working on i was wondering if there is software available that will allow me to use another key combination to put in a period (such as ctrl P) for xp Also if there is one for linux that would help because i am installing ubuntu on this machine soon thanks for the help and sorry about the lack of periods in this post
