I think I have fixed close to a thousand times. How? Get a new keyboard and install the new keyboard.
Here these run from 10 to 100 USD and worth it since you save the laptop from the bin. On such old laptops we often put in a SSD to replace the old slow HDD and the performance is very nice and a laptop that someone will want to use.
Hi everyone! New member here. I have 10 year-old Toshiba a300 satelite laptop. Some time ago I started to hear beep sound. The Windows wouldn't start, but in cases when it did, OS went crazy. I couldn't move icons on desktop, enter task manager or when I would try to make a new document or insert an image in Photoshop nothing would happen.
At first it looked like a virus. I reinstalled my OS many times but problem still pesists. It turned out that corrupted F2 key causes all this. I removed the whole keyboard while laptop was working and problem immidiaetly dissapeared and laptop was working without any problems. Using some software I disabled F2 key but when keyboard is connected problem appears again. Although it doesn't work, when I press it a few times, comptuter starts to work normally but after 20 min everything is same. There aren't other keys that don't work. I'm not so intrested in fixing this problem because I always can connect external keyboard or use another laptop but I would like to know how it is possible that one key causes so much software problems.
Sometimes I repair computers but I have never encountered a problem like this. Does anyone have the same experience? Sorry for my english, I am not a native speaker.
