Jagger knighthood: Richards rages

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Keith Richards is not amused.

The legendary Rolling Stones' guitarist has flown into a rock and roll rage against Mick Jagger over the singer's decision to accept a knighthood, the ultimate nod from the British establishment.

"I don't want to step out onstage with someone wearing a coronet and sporting the old ermine," Richards told British music magazine "Uncut" in an expletive-rich interview.

"I told Mick it's a paltry honor ... It's not what the Stones is about, is it?"

He has nothing to worry about then

Knighthoods don't come with ermine and coronets, coronets are exclusively for Royalty and earldoms/dukedoms, and ermine is reserved for lordships of any level.

What dismays me is the number of celebs getting Honours at all. It isn't too many years ago, a decision was taken that most should go to ordinary folk in mainstream society for their REAL contribution to the betterment of their community. We saw a flurry of lollipop men (US = crossing guard), dinner ladies and others who do real work, as the change was launched in earnest.

Seems it hasn't taken Blair too long to forget this new and very popular direction, as he now tries to surround himself with sycophants from the so-called "beautiful people". Sheesh, doesn't that term make you wanna PUKE??? If any of you saw David Beckham get his gong, his ex-Spice Girl crooner wife, Victoria, was wearing a straggly twig on her head! Gads, that woman is one ugly bint! He must have been out on a bender the night before he proposed to her!!

Hi Dale:

I'm sure Keith knows about the ermine & coronets and was just exercising a little dramatic license to illustrate his displeasure.

Mick has always been the most "establishment" of the Stones in many ways, hanging out at Studio 54 with the "beautiful people" in the 70s and the like. It doesn't surprise me that he would accept the honor, and it doesn't surprise me that his doing so would irk Keith.

They've been best friends since they were "in the sandbox" as Keith has said, and I'm sure they'll get past this too, eventually.
