you do not want to skimp, at all, if HT is of primary importance. Especially for your open space. Its much harder to pressurize the air when its so open like that. You are NOT skimping, and am not saying you are, but get the best you can afford is my opinion in this situation. I never said blow $$$ at your receiver, surge protector, wiring, or even speakers. But for HT, I say that you do throw $$$ at it. If its ever too big, too much, etc, you can always return it, sell it, etc. When you skimp here, you are giving up both extension and output. and like I said before, output is easy (well if wife is ok with yet another sub laying around) but you will never be able to get that extension back. And if you DO add another sub, its usually recommended to add the identical model. Hence, get the best you can to begin with. my 2 cents.
So when you me ask between VTF 2 MK ii, or cheaper, of course I vote for the first. In fact, I would even happily encourage you to get the VTF 3 mk 3. Whichever of these, do not add Turbo. That is really more beneficial to the HO line, as the turbos do nothing for these subs.
I checked out measurements on the 3.3, and its way superior as an HT sub compared to that sealed SVS. IIRC, looking quickly, it probably has an entire extra octave of usuable/audible/tactile frequency extension.
i've got a 13'x23' room and will get a 100-120W receiver (onkyo 706/806 or sony str-da3400/4400es). i watch tv & movies 90%, and music 10% of the time.
is there anyone with knowledge/opinion about getting the kef or aperion speakers for a 6.1 surround situation?
any wisdom is welcome!
thanks, john
