You've left out a lot of details, so let's start with those questions and this tip:

Tip: If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution.

go into the setup of your computer by:
repeatedly pressing F10 or DELETE(these are the most common) as the computer starts up. If neither of these keys work reply by telling what brand and model computer you have.

Once in the setup settings:

Find the Power Management settings.

And make sure AC Power Loss Restart or AC Power Loss Shutdown and anything like that is disabled and if not disable them.

What comes to mind first with these issues, especially with a laptop is a heat issue. Do you elevate the rear to allow ventilation?

I've also seen this work on both laptops and desktops-being that you're posting in the XP forum, I have to assume you're using XP. Right click My Computer, left click properties. On the Advanced tab>Startup and Recovery>Settings, uncheck "Automatically Restart"- that's listed under "System Failure" in the middle. Good luck.
