Question

keep messages received on iphone separate from Mac desktop

Jun 6, 2016 9:49PM PDT

Hello, i am desperate and completely ignorant. I need you fine folks to help me figure out a way that is easy to set up for my father and I to communicate. I am living overseas, and though I am currently in the process of visas etc to move my family to the USA, I will be here for quite a bit longer. I am desperate to communicate with my father privately as my mom has developed some severe memory issues. They have joint email accounts, and every message triggers a notice on the computer and my mother reads them all. (I tried to surprise my mom with a visit and as soon as I emailed my dad, she immediately called me on the phone all excited)
So I am wondering if there is a program or app that can bridge between android (my phone) or my pc and his iphone without triggering a message on the computer/appearing on the computer at all. (for example, whatsapp?)
He needs to be able to communicate with me and I with him so he can vent his feelings and concerns and so we can team up together to help solve problems as they arise. Also for updates on doctors appointments etc.
It would be ideal to not change the notifications on the Mac as this is part of how my mother knows when there are email messages (from me for example!) and changing that would be bad for her.
I greatly appreciate any and all help you can give! Please, if any part of my message is confusing or unclear, let me know so that we can find a solution.
Thank you!
Steph

Whatsapp would certainly be an option.

But plain old e-mail to a new free e-mail account he makes and only uses on his phone is just as effective. And, in fact, so is making a phone call if you both have a phone. But that's much more expensive, internationally.

Thank you for your response. Is whatsapp available on iphones? Whatever the solution it needs to be simple for him to set it up (he's 72 and not super tech savvy which I am not either.). I would call his phone, but the cost is prohibitive.
