KDS monitor, not sure whats up

Jul 13, 2007 12:48PM PDT

So I have an old KDS monitor that was given to me after a lightning storm. The owner said it died, and I took it and looked to see if I could find the problem. I thought the 12v 4a power supply was bad, so I tried my laptop's 19v 3.16 power supply, and the monitor worked. I then bought a 12v 4a PS off ebay, got it in.. and the cord fit, but it didn't power the monitor on. Has anybody ever heard of a monitor malfunction where it requires more volts to power on? Any tips on where to head next?

-Thanks

Lighting is tricky...

I hope this was an exact replace PS you brought. You did check the +/- posting marking for the plug itself? As for the power demands, since lightning does the strangest things *anything* can be at fault, it so wide open. Even, if you left the higher volatge PS still connected it may work for awhile and then fail. Monitors aren't too tolerate of voltage variation, but expect at least 10%+/- to work. Also, the ebay purchase may in itself be bad unless you can trust the source. Did you check with a meter?

Checked with a meter, and its running at the correct voltages. I guess the monitor just requires more now for some reason.
