KDF 42 WE 655 BUILT IN HD TUNER W/CABLE CARD SLOT

Dec 28, 2004 11:46PM PST

I have Directv and recently purchased this model, based on the fact that the cable card input would replace the set top hd receiver. I am being told that satilite the card cannot be formatted into the cable slot and that, I must purchase a directv HD receiver [cost $350 ],TO RECEIVE HD.Does anyone have a similar problem with directv.

The Cable Card slot does not support any satellite companies right now. I'm sure it will happen eventually, but only digital cable works with the slot right now.

DCR (cable card)

DCR or cable compatible tv's are just that, cable compatible. Back when the FCC was having meetings about the HDTV standard and tv manufacturer specs, both sat companies opted to not get involved...thus cable has some 80% of the market place compared to the 20% that both Dish Network and Directv have. With sat you will ALWAYS need and external hd decoder box. You won't see a sat/card compatible tv until cable card is 2 way communication...2 yrs...
You may take advantage of an over the air antenna and recieve hd local brodcast with not extra equipment until you can afford to get an hd sat box.
