Question

KB2850047

Feb 9, 2014 4:38AM PST

Have tried many times to load KB2850047 (security update for Office 2003) and KB2863800 (security update for Word 2003) and KB2863866 (security update for email junk filter) and none will load. Went to MS web site for solutions (3) but they didn't work either. Many moons ago when 0047 was loaded it made my system go all wonky. Had to use a restore point to solve the problem. Didn't try that again. Suggestions?

It appears to update GDIPLUS.DLL

"This security update resolves a publicly disclosed vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Lync. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user views content that contains specially crafted TIFF files."

This update is one that you may want to weigh the risk versus your use. That is, if you know that the dang rare as this is image I think you can do without this one.

Is there more to the story such as some antivirus suite was active during the patch?

Hasn't MS pulled the plug on Office 2003 support?

I thought I read that they have dropped support for Office 2003. It might be time to get either a later version of Office or download the free LibreOffice which is largely compatible with Office.

Sorry if you missed the full text of the patch but it was not only for Office.
