Kaspersky problems - It stops in the middle of scanning

Dec 28, 2005 6:41AM PST

I have encountered the following problem:

I started to run Kaspersky last night and after several hours being away from the computer I went back just to see that it had only scanned 65%! When taking a closer look this is what the report says about it.

When I tried to pause or stop it it wouldn't do so and I had to get out of it through the task manager. Now when I lok at the report it says that the Full">http://img433.imageshack.us/img433/975/screenshot0215fz.jpg]Full System Scan is still running and the task manager does NOT say that and there are no signs that it is still running. When opening the software this is the site I get which says that the full system scan is in progress. Hitting the "detail" next to that will make the software keep scanning without actually doing it, because that is exactly what it is, it has stopped but looks as if it was still in "business".

Does anyone have any experience with Kaspersky and can anyone help me out here?

I am running Windows XP on a P4 512 RAM.

Hi Tibbs
Dec 28, 2005 8:26AM PST

I'm not very familiar with KAV but I remember something in a thread a while back about the first sceenshot with the password protected Ad-Aware skins BUT I do not remember what the solution was nor do I remember if it was even involving KAV so that is NO help to you at all. Sorry but this link might help. Scroll down to where it says "technical support".

There are links once you get there inside where this quote that might help.

Skins

Please elaborate on Adaware password protected skins. Is this not a good thing? Have several files protected that NOD32 shows but no threats.

As far as I know they are

no threat whatsoever but that is what Tibb's first screenshot was which is why I mentioned them. That is why I sent him to KAV support. I don't know anything about password protected Ad-Aware skins or why KAV is flagging them or I would have answered his question. Happy

Thanks, that's a load off! One can get a little paranoid with all those "baddies" out there.

Found some, more to go -> KAV is GONE! NAV is back!
Dec 29, 2005 7:36PM PST

Found some solutions for KAV and the password issue, but couldn't reach certain sites with IE (such as my bank account since it uses a certificate I guess) and WMP wouldn't start. System Restore didn't work at all... Back to good ole NAV! I gave it a shot and KAV didn't live up. Well, it actually seen to scan more files than NAV, but since I've never had ONE SINGLE VIRUS with NAV I don't see why I should keep an AV that messes up the computer. And it's the second time that it does it! I tried it several years ago on a P2 and the same story!

As long as you have SOMETHING that

works, that is the main thing. There are many good ones nowadays, the thing is finding one that works for YOU. Glad you found a solution.

There is an AV...

that scans DOS too or at least BIOS and everything which is used by professionals a lot. DO you know which one that may be? It works in Windows too, but not only...

Thank you

I think...

it might be BitDefender which I am trying out now and it seems to work fine so far. At least the scanning doesn't take as much resources as NAV!

(NT) (NT) Be careful of false positives with that one.

Why?

Do you know that it has done that before? Would like to know before deciding.

I don't have time noe to go look

for documentation but it has been known for false positives which is why it is not one of the programs we recommend here. I use NAV and have never gotten infected with anything. Others in here hate NAV and use other programs such as AVG, McAfee, avast, NOD32 among others. Use whatever works for YOU. They are all good.
