Resolved Question

Kaspersky Logs Won't Shred

Dec 18, 2011 11:54PM PST

Kaspersky's
TDSSKiller generates logs and they add up over 18 megabytes in just a couple of months, I used Spybot's Shredder which has always worked in the past and it could not shred these logs. Also I have to use admin privileges just to move the logs from place to place. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these logs? No other AV-AM does this with their logs.

The FOLDER
Dec 19, 2011 11:38AM PST

My first thought when this happened was could it possibly be the FOLDER itself, the TDSSKILLER QUARANTINE folder, but I dismissed the thought of course. Well after posting my replies to you kind people I went to the folder and MOVED the texts, it required Admin Privileges in Vista, into a new folder, THEN I shredded, and it worked.
Somehow Kaspersky's creation of a folder to hold the quarantined item, which was nothing more than an innocent update to Anti-Virus, prohibited the shred. Can you imagine that?
Anyway I did want to thank all of you who cared enough to answer, this case is now CLOSED, SOLVED.

I have to confess I wouldn't know how to get to Safe Mode, in order to try that.

Seems odd, and you cannot deal with them from Reports and Storages in Kaspersky? That would usually be were you should be able to deal with such.

logs
Dec 19, 2011 9:57AM PST

I just opened Kaspersky TDSSKiller and clicked on Reports which takes me to view, within the software itself, a representation of a text for this. now, opening of the software. There is no means, apparent to me at least, of deleting it. I had found a TDSSKiller folder which had come from quarantining of a false positive from a week ago, which I deleted in my Computer's Program Files folder, also in that folder and NOT in a Kaspersky folder, were all of the logs, shown as 300 log files for this program about 18 megabytes in
total. When scanned with Anti-Virus showed a total of 599 files. I thereupon moved all of these into the empty quarantine folder and put it on my desktop.
Repeated attempts to shred were unsuccessful. These are listed as text files: Text Document (.txt) the name ends with: _log

How does this avoid the shredder, I just shredded some other text documents and they were shredded completely. This is rather disturbing.

There are reasons for this to happen.

Could be a permissions or ownership issue but we know Spybot is a little dated and fails for some.

Why not delete this with Explorer next time?
