JVC GZ-MG21U download to p/c

by bestvet2004 / January 19, 2007 6:39 AM PST

I am having trouble downloading from the MG21 to the p/c. I believe
all of the software is loaded correctly. My p/c is using XP Media
Center 2005. Displayed on the LCD screen is "USB MASS STORAGE".
I do not receive any message from the p/c or the LCD that any
action or errors has occured. Can someone supply more instruction
than what is in the manual. thanks, bill

The manual I downloaded at
by boya84 / January 19, 2007 7:33 AM PST
http://books.jvcservice.com/download/131345019/39098.pdf has nothing about "connecting to a computer" so that's pretty useless...

The MG21 is a hard drive based camcorder... you already know this (others reading this may not). When you connect you computer and camera together via the USB ports and cable,

Can you see this "USB Mass storage" item under "My Computer"?

When you open that "USB Mass Storage" item (under "My Computer"), what is in there? The stills on the memory card? Are you in SD (memory card) mode or HDD (hard drive) media mode?

When transferring, the camera is a "passive device" - that is, it needs to be on - and most likely plugged into the wall power.

As with any USB mass storage device, there isn't always a message displayed by the Operating System when the device is connected/recognized. Sometimes there is, not always.

Or, after doing all this, does it not appear under "My Computer"?

Thanks for the reply. When I had finished the original note I
called JVC and got some help. I was number 1 in line this time instead of number 18. The printed instructions for this
part of the operation needs to be expanded by about 100%. Since
I am a low tech guy I would be unable to put the process in
print. I should have waited for the icamcorder from Apple.

JVC GZ-MG21U download to p/c (I have the pal MG21E)

Hi, when you plug the camcorder into the PC USB port, a new removable drive is created, (EVERIO_HDD ), well, two actually, one is for the SD card slot on the bottom of the camera.)
You need to open this drive and navigate to the (EVERIO_HDD:\SD_VIDEO\PRG001 for access to any recorded videos that you have. Just copy into a ready created folder on your computer, Movies, or something like that.you can delete all the *.MOI files, as they dont seem to matter?
If you have taken pictures and want to get those from the camcorder, just navigate to this folder,EVERIO_HDD:\DCIM\100JVCSO and you should find your pictures there!
Hope this helps! P.S. you have to remove the drive properly so as not to corrupt the HDD on the camera, (not sure if this is apsolutely nessessary, ) by using the icon near the clock to SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE, and selecting SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE DEVICE, highlighting the Everio USB Mass storage device, and clicking stop. it should now display a dialog saying that it is save to remove mass storage device, or something akin to that.
Then just unplug the USB lead from camera socket.
To preform a format of the HDD, you have to power the camera from the powersupply or it just wont let you!
Hope this is of some help!

How to find the JVC files in MY COMPUTER (WIN XP)
by chazacisa / May 20, 2009 7:44 AM PDT

I sometimes cannot find the Hard drive that is associated with the camcorder after plugging in USB. (nor even under MY COMPUTER desktop icon). Make sure camera is charged or plugged in and turned on PLAYBACK mode. Then go to the START menu, click on RUN, then type in "explorer", hit ENTER and then it opens a new EXPLORER window, where you can click on MY COMPUTER in there...it seems to work to find the EVERIO Camcorder HD. (Mine is Drives E: and F:)

Hope it works.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
