General discussion

JVC GR DVP3U/Is this a good camcorder

Oct 2, 2007 8:12AM PDT

I've done some internet browsing about this model but can't find very much information on it. What I do know is it has 10X optical/ 200X digital zoom, digital image stabilzer, variable-speed Shutter (1/250, 1/100, 1/60 sec.) and that it's rather small. Anyone have any opinions/experience with this model? Is it a good camcorder or one to be avoided. I am using a camcorder for home use(home video, still photos, etc.)nothing professional. Thanks for any help/information you can provide.

Do you already have it or

are you considering getting it?

Looks like a fun itty-bitty camera that shoots standard definition and uses MiniDV tape... and has a firewire port... Does your computer have a firewire port?

If you already have it, then it's probably fine. If you are going to buy it, I guess it depends how much you are spending to get it.

Don't worry about the 200x digital zoom - it is useless and should be turned off, so take that item off your "features".

I don't have it but saw it and am considering getting it. Yes my pc does have the firewire port. I saw the camcorder online up for auction. I don't think I'd pay over $170 for it.
Yes I found out the hard way about the digital zoom. I now only focus on the optical, lol
Thank you for taking time to reply.

$170 in online auction...

Since I don't know who used it, how it was used, whether any of the cables are included (not FireWire - they are almost always sold separately), charger, additional battery availability, etc... that might be pushing it... plus JVC optics have never been stallar... but you won't find anything new close to that... Buyer beware...

I missed it

B I didn't log in in time and let the auction end on me. It was sold for $102.50 and came with all accessories. I guess it wasn't meant for me.

HI,
We have owned this camera for at least 7 years and find it well build and completely trouble free. It is easy to use and works well, at least for our casual use.
