I gave up my Canon HV20 because of the mechanical tape drive. Wear will eventually cause faulty recording.
I now use two Panasonic HC-V 700/750 cameras using SD card recording medium, the 700 is three years old and continues to perform OK. There are a number of advantages, no FireWire connection needed and the SD cards can be used again and again. (not something I would do with tape) SD cards are more cost effective than tape.
The recording process breaks each shot into a separate file which can be used directly in a computer based video editor, so splitting the continuous video stream into shots using the time code is no longer required.
The new cameras give you a lot of extras such as time lapse or slow motion plus the sound can be recorded in 5.1 surround or in stereo. There are fewer options for in camera editing such as adding a sound track to the tape later but these are usually catered for in the video editor.
Hi all,
I have not used this camcorder in months, I was looking at some old bid of my grandkids today but there is now a sound glitch. About every two seconds the sound is broken for a split second, I used a tape cleaner thinking that was the problem but I think it's the mechanics.
The picture is very good, just this break in sound, the can was a cheap one which I have had for some years, been on a lot of hold with no probs but I haven't used it of late due to my daughter's illness. I just hope it's an easy problem to solve, any ideas would be appreciated.
Stally.
