jvc gr-d33u. can not transfer video

have a JVC GR-D33U, connected to dell dimension E521 with a AMD 64 athlonX2 processer. i'm currently running VISTA home premium.

my problems is when i opened up Windows Movie player and tried to "Record" some of the video I had recorded, the preview pane is blank with no audio through the PC, even though it is playing on the camcorder while connected. However, what baffles me is that the buttons on the computer to play, rewind, etc do function in that the camcorder responds to these directions. I have also tried "capturing" with ulead dvd movie factory 6 with the same results. The JVC website is aweful with no help for driver updates, etc. Is there something really easy I'm missing?

here 's the killer, using the same recorder and pc but with XP sp2 on it everthing worked.

Didn't read how it was connected. USB fails like that all the time. I use firewire.

via a 1394 hook up.

If that fails, ask Dell for fix or refund.
