What type of internet do you have (ISP). Dynamic or static? What OS is on the computer you are using? etc.

Thanks for your kind response. Ok. I have Window XP Home with cable internet connection (Dynamic or static? not sure). Indeed, at first try it did work by following the instruction from the Quick Installation guide and with the help from some websites' HOW TO.. Then I tried to make it secure by changing some from defualt setting and it started from here (getting worse). It getting worse each time i tried. Pushed that reset button (several times) at the router's back, reboot many times, all in vain.
I was waiting anxiously to get wireless internet connection for my new Dell Laptop (XP Home/dell wireless 1450 802.11a/b/g mini PCI card) after succefully stting up with my desk top. But I got stuck here. Please help... I would appreciate if you could give me step by step instruction as I am new to this tech. Thank you.

WEP WAP WOES
Jan 31, 2005 1:38AM PST

Good luck getting an answer. I am having the same problem.

XP and 2000 system w/ WEP and 802.11b on a 4 port router w/ wireless. Also, have XP and ME system hardwired with no problem.

Have been able to get one of the systems to connect at a time, but not both (XP and 2000). Once one will not connect, I have to disable the WEP in order to re-establish contact. Something does not appear to be resetting properly in the router.

connecting to wireless.
Feb 1, 2005 5:38AM PST

It sounds like the wireless adapter (DWL-G122) is detecting the wireless access point (DI-624+) but the adapter isn't assigning an IP to the computer.

What OS do you run, XP?

check your set up manual for the DI-624 make sure that you go through the steps for setting up the wireless connection. on the computer with the wireless adapter if there is a true connection you should be able to logon to the router (624+) by putting in its IP address in your browser address line. It probably is something like 192.168.0.1 If this doesn't work then your adapter isn't set up properly with the correct SSID or WEP number is that is active on your router.

I have windows XP Home on my desktop (PIII) and also in Dell Laptop (Pentium M). I tried many times going through step by step instruction just to get wireless network on my main computer (Desktop/PIII) and when I success, I want to connect my Dell Laptop too which have mini PCI card 1450 802.11a/b/g from Dell itself. But, I just can't get through the first computer (Desktop).
Is there some kind of order; which hardware should I install first, wireless adapter or router? Or when exactly should I unplug the Cable internet's cable? Or to uninstall first the drivers and start again? If yes, then how to uninstall Router's (DI-624+) if there is any? Or this Dlink's wireless usb adapter and router is just tourble giver and should opt others (which one)? Am just confuse!!! Am new to all this wireless things. Please help!!! Thank you.

"But, I just can't get through the first computer (Desktop)."

im am not sure what you mean by that. make sure when you are setting up your network that you have the setting going through the gateway and not another computer.

What i sugest is uninstalling everything, even down to the drivers. Set up the router first. See if you have an auto-config tool/software to use. I know linksys does but i am not sure about D-Link. Don't enable encryption or any security untill yo have all the wireless computers set up. Start here. I have to temp. go i will add more later. Just start over again.

When in doubt, just start from scratch!

Tried many times!!!
Feb 2, 2005 8:51AM PST

Its now fourth day since I have been trying. Followed the step by step in user manual; didn't worked. Uninstall and re-install the necessary driver, pushed the defualt setting button on router, reboot, restore to previous setting of the computer, and all others possibilties; it just didn't work.
A moment ago, I tried again and this time I got stuck right at the wireless router (DI-624+) setup. It shows connected (wired through modem to the router) but no access to internet (says, "The page cannot be diplayed"). Am suppose to connect wireless adapter (DWL-G122) after the wireless router setup. But I just got stuck at the very beginning. Its getting worse each time I try.
I also want to connect ma Dell Laptop (mini PCI card 1450 802.11a/b/g) to the wireless router after sucessfully setting up my desktop. PLease HELP!!!

how bout this...
Feb 18, 2005 1:03AM PST

I have just had the same issue with a Netgear card and router - here is the info that helped me get the connection fixed. Once I made these changes I had to reinstall the driver for the wireless card - which was a beta version set up specifically to run with XP -SP2 hope this helps...this might bne a little long but it solved my dilemma

Windows XP wireless problems after windows update:

Summary:

This document describes the reasons for wireless connection loss after windows update in windows xp machine and the ways to overcome it.

This document is provided in as is basis no warranty whatsoever will cover the consequences of any results. The readers are requested to try these steps in their own risk

Problem:

The document is specific to the wireless problem in windows xp where the user loses the wireless connection after running windows update ( and not installing the service pack ) in his machine.

This happens because of the installation of a recommended hotfix (815485) from microsoft from XP. This hotfix is a part of an optional but recommended windows xp update which adds WPA support to the wireless card drivers.

The indication of this problem can be like this,

1. After the wireless card is enabled and connected to the AP it will not get an IP address nor will it be able to ping to the AP. The wireless connection properties will say that it is connected with good signal strength, it will also send packets but not receive any packets back.

2. The Wireless status will say "One or more wireless networks available" when the user tries to connect , it will not connect , but it will continue to say "One or more wireless networks available". Whatever the user does will not help himto connect to the AP.

Solution:

To solve this problem we need to either uninstall the update or enable encryption in the wireless network in open key mode.

Uninstallation of the hotfix:

1. Go to control panel " Add remove programs".
2. Scroll to the bottom and look out for an entry which says,
"Windows XP Hotfix (SP2)Q815485"
and remove it

Enabling encryption:

The user can enable encryption in his wireless network which will also fix this problem. To enable encryption the user first needs to enable encryption in his AP and follow these steps to enable encryption in the wireless card.

1. Right click on the network icon in the system tray and click on " View available networks",
2. Select the network name or SSID of the AP,
3. Enter the encryption key in the fields " Network key " and " Confirm network key",
4. Uncheck the checkbox which says "Enable 802.1X authentication for this network" and click on connect.

After a few seconds the user will be able to establish an encrypted connection to his wireless network.

The user can also alternately configure encryption using the following steps,

1. Right click on the network icon in the system tray and click on " View available networks",
2. Click on the button advanced.
3. It will take the user to the "Wireless networks" tab of the wireless area connection properties window.
4. Select the entry in the preferred network and delete it,
5. Select the entry in the "Available networks " and click on configure,
6, In the configuration window select the Data encryption as WEP and Network authentication as Open system,
7. Click on the TAB Authentication and uncheck the check box which says "Enable 802.1x authentication"

Click OK twice to come back to the desktop and check the connection to the router, which will be active now.

Disabling the Wireless Zero configuration:

If the wireless card vendor has supplied a utility program for windows xp, the user can install the utility and disable the Wireless zero configuration.

The user can follow these steps to disable the Wireless zero configuration.

1. Go to the wireless networks tab of the wireless area connection properties window.
2. Uncheck the check box which says " Use windows to configure my wireless network"

Have you tried unplugging the cable modem for about 30 seconds to let it reset itself?
