Shalitus, That Error....
Oct 30, 2005 11:38PM PST

...is usually a "timed out" error and it's frequently because the computer doesn't have an internet connection. It's also possible that the download server is down for the update location you've chosen. You must be connected to the internet when you update.. You haven't given us much information about your computer. Please do...Operating system, processor speed, internet connection type, things like that..

As far as I've seen, Spybot WILL let you do a scan without being updated but you have to cancel out the update window that pops up at the beggining...When I update a new install, I install the program first, then close out all requests for updates and program configurations at the beginning. After, that I open the program from the Programs menu, click on the "Search For Updates" button. After the updates are detected, I place a CHECK mark in all the updates, then I change the download location in the upper part of the screen by clicking on the drop down arrow next to the current download location and I choose "Safer Networking #2 (Europe)",(The download location drop down arrow is just to the left of the "Download Updates" button), then I click on the "Download Updates" button.

Hope this helps.
