Can't help with the Xbox thing, but the settings (as I know about them) are like this...
If you have a Linksys accesspoint/router there is help in the right hand margin for every feature. Very useful (MUCH better than the simple brochure included)
WEP - encrypted transmissions from access point/router to PC. Secures your radio signal from someone listening and reading your data.
MAC address filtering - locks your AccessPoint/Router from someone hitching ride on your network to surf the net or your hard drive files. (personally I think this is more important to turn on)
SSID - turn off the broadcast to prevent oursiders from seeing your access point.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
It's all hooked up, wired to my pc, and my XBOX. Everything is working, but I had to disable my UPnP, because of some known problem with XBOX Live, and this router. You can see that here:

Anyhow, my wifi is disabled at the moment, because I am still waiting for my new notebook in the mail. My main questions are, what general settings should I use?
They are somewhat confusing to me, and the paperwork that came with the router isn't that helpful.
I live in an apt. complex, and don't want to leave myself vulnerable, because I'm not sure who around here has wifi capabilities.
There are so many choices and numbers for me to choose, and I don't quite understand the security features either. The WEP, and all that other stuff. Is one better than the other?
I will only have my XBOX and PC wired to it, and my laptop will be wireless.
Thank you for any info at all.
