Just added some new hardware.....

by jonontherd / January 27, 2008 3:57 PM PST

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 computer. I upgraded with a Linksys wireless G pci adapter. Now when I go to certain sites a login and password screen pops up. I don't know what my user name and password is because when I added the hardware I didn't go through any password set up or anything like that. But it does say you can override web filtering, how can I do that?

Were you able to "go to" those sites ...
by Edward ODaniel / January 28, 2008 8:51 AM PST

before adding the Wireless Adapter without having to enter a username and password? Are you a "member" of those sites and did you delete some cookies?

How is the ROUTER you are making a connection through set up for wireless security? If it is just limiting by MAC address you won't get a request for username and password, you will just be allowed or not allowed. If it is secured with WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) whoever set up the router would have privided you with the necessary password/passphrase.

Unable to go to those sites.....

If I use the regular AOL screen I can gain access, but if I use Fiefox or Internet Explore it asks me for a user name and password. Would it be something with either of those two browsers I need to disable? And before I forget, it is an unsecured WIFI connection.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
