Jumping Cursor and no touch pad options

Aug 30, 2006 9:08PM PDT

Hi by looking in these forums i can see im not the only person being driven mad by this problem. The cursor jumps every couple of minutes to the middle of words a few lines up, this is driving me nuts. Also cant scroll up and down pages from the corner of my mouse pad as it doesnt work, and i cant find any options for a touch pad. Sony are absolutely useless, veven though they claim to have won a award for there technical support centre, yeh right. Please please help before i smash this very sleek laptop into a million pieces

Did Anyone Ever Figure this one out?
May 12, 2008 11:21AM PDT

My cursor is doing the same thing. I have cleaned my touch pad, don't have a mouse, and my cursor continously jumps around, making it very hard to type, like many of the other reports on here. Has anyone found a solution? Thank you

Your thumbs are banging against your touchpad!!
Mar 17, 2008 12:03PM PDT

This is only a problem with laptops, never with desktops. You can set your computer to not display the cursor while typing. That usually works but sometimes the cursor is handy. Since I always use my wireless mouse and not the touchpad, I taped an old expired gas station gift card over my touch-pad so my thumbs wouldn't touch it while I typed. Worked like a charm. Now, its fun to read all the theories and comments about which brand of computer has the most problems with this and how some "teckies" think its a hardware problem or a Microsoft issue. Some people really get into depth with their theories on this issue. One person was commenting how it happened more often when typing specific keys. HA, HA!!

Erratic cursor behavior
Aug 24, 2009 4:36AM PDT

My cursor not only jumps all over , moving the page up and down, but also freezes quite frequently creating yet another problem. When it freezes I have discovered a better way to resolve it or free it up than doing a "bad" restart with the power button - that is to ctrl, alt, del and alt U and enter on "stand by" It come back when you come back on. I don't have any clue why this is happening, but it is maddening! Whoever said this is only a problem with laptops was WRONG! Trust me! I have a desktop and this problem is driving me nuts. At times, it makes my computer almost impossible to use - especially if trying to play a game or write a letter. I wish someone did have a solution since my next attempt to fix it will have to be a complete reinstall - since I have tried everything else. I would be so grateful if someone could come up with a solution! Thanks everyone; keep up the great work

Curser jumping all over the screen and behaving eratically
Jun 16, 2010 6:55PM PDT

This might sound impossible but here is the story;
My cursur started jumping all over the screen and activating any applications with a desktop icon and sometimes it would just freeze.
This also affected other laptops nearby that suddenly started the same behaviour. The first impression was that it could be Wireless or Bluetooth that causes the interferance but after switching off all wireless and Bluetooth sources, the problem was still there. It was not untill I unplugged the power supply on one of the laptops to remove the wireless card that I realised that the problem has dissapeared on the other laptops. The power supply (Universal adapter) seems to either emit, or send a frequency down the power line that causes the eratic behaviour.
Sollution: Replaced the power supply with a non-universal type and the problem is sorted. No more jumping curser from any of the laptops.
The power supply is a Sumvision Model: ST-A-120-002U002AAT just in case someone has the same issues.
