JPGs only save as BMPs

I've seen this as long as I've been on the net, and I was always able to fix it by deleting temorary internet files. This worked for three and a half years, now it doesn't. Can only save pics as BMPs. Argh, why does this happen? It doesn't happen to netscape. It happened with win98, and previous versions of ie, and still happens with xp. How has this glitch managed to last this long? Any ideas?

As to why, the same question about why NORMAL.DOT continues to cause Word failures...

Now that disk cleanup doesn't cure it, time to find the TIF and manually clean it up.
