JPEG Preview aplication does not work,HELP!

Power Mac G4, OS X 10.3.9.
After doing ''software Update'' I have lost the use of my Preview aplication, clicking on any jpeg will not open and message ''error code -1712'' shows up.
can any one help me?

Repairing permissions.
If this fails, it is possible to install just the Preview program from the installation disk.
You will need a piece of software to "view the packages" first

Just did the "Repairing Permissions" from "Disk Utilities"and nothing.
Anny other sugestions, RE. software to "view the packages"?

Viewing Packages

If you Control + Click on a package you should get a menu that includes the phrase "Show Package Contents"
If you do that with the installation disk you should be able to find the Preview program installer.
Trash any Preview preferences or other files, you can find, use Apple + F, and then reinstall.
Before the reinstall, try the trashing thing and then launching Preview again. Preference files are recreated when the program is launched
