I'm not going to try to wade through the long discussion where this subject sidetracked, so am starting a new one.
I found some statistics on worldwide production of the kiwi fruit. It is from 1999, but I found it interesting.

We get a lot of offseason produce from Chile in the States.
Kiwi wine?it sounds very good, but probably too sweet for me?I can only handle dry wine. You can have a glass for me. ![]()

No problem Ian--I'm not keeping score.
I learn a lot here, and that's more important to me.
In California, when kiwifruit was relatively new to the area, I remember driving by--would almost have to call them kiwi vineyards. They looked just like oversized grapevines.
Besides, you gave me an idea to try New Zealand and Australian wines.

Oz is a little like France/Italy and even good ole California when it comes to wine.... in the grape growing areas you'll see every 40-50 miles there is a farm which has it's own wine and believe me, they are good!!
we stayed with friends just outside Melbourne and we drank a different wine every day, and all from grapes grown locally...
same with New Zealand, i can honestly say i didn't taste one wine that wasn't superb...
Kiwi (fruit) wine is a little "strange" ...not too sweet, pointing to semi-dry and with all the "tang" of the fruit...
