JBL EC 35 Center Channel Question

Aug 20, 2005 8:32AM PDT

Anyone know what minimal rear space is needed for the EC 35 because of its rear port design. Seems to get good reviews but the rear port issue is always mentioned. Considering it or the Infinity Beta C250 if it is a real space problem. Just believe 3 channel vs 2 channel is the way to go and the EC 35 seems to be priced the best. Thanks

JBL EC 35 Center Channel Question

You didn't say how much space you have???
What did the reports say.
EC35 should not be set as a fullrange speaker if your reciver has settings for this.
I'll look at my spec sheet. Mine is not enclosed so I never worried about it. John

JBL EC 35 Center Channel Question

Thanks for your response. The size of the space where the speaker would be placed is 44x8x21. Height it close and rear space seemed ok. No problem with the width. The only air getting in is from the front because the top, bottom and sides are closed in. This happens to be a lower area opening at the bottom of the cabinet housing the large screen tv. Based on JBl's size specs, their would be an additional 11 inches of space from the rear of the speaker before reaching the wall. Based on the info above, the unit will fit in ok but I'm just not sure if the air space around it will be enough. A salesman at Best Buy said 6 inches of space in the rear should be enough but it seemed as though he was more interested in selling the unit than coming up with the correct answer. I could be wrong but that's just the way he came across.

By the way, do you have the matching bookshelves to the ec 35? I'm considering the e 20' or 30's as both of them got some pretty good reviews.

Thanks for your help.

JBL EC 35 Center Channel Question

I wouldn't worry to much about it, since it would only affect frequencys below 100hz which should be going to the subwoffer anyway.

No I don't, I have some older JBL speakers as my mains and surrounds.
JBL has been my brand of choice for 43 years so go for it. John

Appreciate your assistance. Someone else also mentioned that more than 6 inches of room behind the port is sufficient. Going to purchase today.
