Is It Java 7 or Java 6? Java 7 is Having Problems For Some
Nov 5, 2011 4:30AM PDT

Just a note about the newest Java 7 version... There are a number of firewalls that block the newest Java 7 from access to the internet.. Java applets don't work correctly and other issues have come up as well.

As such, we've been installing the newest Java 7 Update 29 on all our computer, including Windows 7 and it's working fine and hasn't been detected as malware either. If you'd like to download Java 6 Update 29, here's the link to download the JRE OFFLINE file..

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-6u29-download-513650.html

After downloading the file, UNINSTALL Java 7 from your computer, then install the Java 6 from the downloaded file.

Hope this helps.

Newest Java 7 Update 29?
Nov 5, 2011 7:24AM PDT
...we've been installing the newest Java 7 Update 29 on all our computer, including..'

Have I been asleep, while Java's been updating behind my back? Sad

Or is it a typo, and should read Java 7 Update 1?

OR... is it "none of the above", and I'm sleep deprived ??!!

Thanks for .. whichever one it is!

Sorry, My Typo: Java 7 Update 1... or Java 6 Update 29.

But as I suggested, we're staying clear of Java 7 at this point in time.

Hope this helps.

Answer
Very possible it is a false positive
Nov 5, 2011 1:58AM PDT

I had to Google Virgin Media and I see it is an ISP in the UK that has it's own security. If your java download is from the legit Java website than more than likely, Virgin Media is falsely flagging it. They have a suport forum where you can check and see if others have the same problem.

False Positive?

mavrick..

I see you also posted at the Virgin Media Internet Securty forum. You "seem" to indicate it's no longer a problem, but say you're not sure what Virgin Media is "picking up". It could be a false detection on Virgin Media's part. Confused

If you're still not sure if the file is infected, I would suggest uploading the file to Virus Total". It's an online service which analyzes suspicious files.

Let us know how you make you.

Best of luck..

thank you carol. yes i have posted on virgin media forum but no answer to my last post. i think myself that it is false positive aswell. as it happens every time i allow the javaupdate. tried with v media security off and avg and mcfee who had no issue. thought maybe someone would no if it was part of java been blocked by name?

Virgn Media Security, AVG and McAfee?
Nov 5, 2011 11:52AM PDT

mavrick..

==>>tried with v media security off and avg and mcfee who had no issue.<<==

Do you have ALL 3 installed? I'm tending to think not, only because I can't imagine McAfee and AVG would allow the installation of the 2. I'm unfamiliar with Virgin Media's Internet Security, but I have no doubt they also frown upon the installation of more than one A/V. No less 3.

If you haven't been made aware of it, having more than ONE installed can lead to a host of problems. False positives being one of them. Some (mistakenly) feel if one is good, two must be better. When in fact, the opposite is true. Both are performing the same task, and run the risk of working against each other.

Running more than one simultaneously can cause system crashes, slow performance, a waste of system resources and over all instability.

IF you do have more than one installed, please consider uninstalling all but one. IF you only have Virgin Media's Internet Security installed.... forget all I wrote above! Grin

I'm glad to hear you have the Java update problem straightened out.
