Dec 5, 2003 12:21PM PST

I need Java to play bridge and other games on Yahoo. I have read that Java is not shipped with Windows XP Pro. Can someone please advise me how to get this.

sboyl, You could go to the link below and download version 5.00.3805 of the Microsoft Virtual Machine, install it, then restart your computer for the installation to complete. You can then update it to version 5.00.3805 at the same link but you must install version 5.00.3805 first. I've used both the MVM & the Sun Java and I prefer the MVM because on my machine it loads applets much quicker than the Sun Java. This is only my opinion though. Here's the link.

Hi Bob, I went ahead and installed the first reply I got from Mark G, which was this link
http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp

Can you please clarify for me if this is the one you are warning against. If so, can you please advise how I should remove it again and which one I should use to be able to play the games? Thank you.

Let me state that MS Java is still used along with the Byte Code Exploit that you may read about at http://www.cigital.com/hostile-applets/deviant2.html The SUN JVM is still being developed, hardened and is not as susceptable to this exploit.

Cool Web is a common web browser ailment that you see use this and other tactics.

and that's the good one. You have to go to Microsoft to get the one that Bob was warning against. Happy gaming. Happy

Thanks, - I should have said upfront that I am a complete "newbie" and when Bob replied in the first place, I could not understand which one he was warning me about. Then he was kind enough to send a link which I read but could not understand.
I hope to learn a lot about my pc and this forum seems to be one good way to obtain the information needed. Thanks for the help, everyone.
