Question

Java for windows xp?

Apr 20, 2018 5:17AM PDT

hey guys,

so i recently took out the old pc from storage. It has windows xp on it (SP3) 32bit.
I was using .jar files, then Java 6 stopped working, so i uninstalled it. Then installed Java SE 7.
Said files still crash upon opening them, or i get the java exception error. Not sure which Java version i am supposed to be running on the 32bit SP3 XP. Google searches keep showing results for 64bit systems.

Below is a direct link to the most current Java SE Runtime Environment 8u172 download page. Once there, look to the 8u172 section, click on the "Accept the license agreement", the click on the download link for the "Windows x86 Offline" listing "jre-8u172-windows-i586.exe". Download the file to your desktop, uninstall all other versions of Java from your computer, then run the downloaded file to install the x87 (32bit) JRE Java version to your computer.

Remember also, if you're only trying to view, or open the .jar files, you may want to use a different utility, like an unizpper. The link below should do that for you. Access the link, then download and install the 32 bit version of 7zip.

Or read about it here:

Hope this helps.
