I now use firefox as default browser. If I go to control panel>Java plug-in>Browser tab to set it as default. My options are

Microsoft IE
Netscape 6 or later
Mozzilla 1.1 or later

So i gather there is no way to set FF as default in Java

Re: Firefox/Java

Tomron,

I just downloaded Java from Firefox (because it was needed for a page from by bank account) and was amazed to see that it installed itself for IE and still worked in Firefox. In fact, when I selected Netscape or Mozilla, I was told that those programs weren't present on my system.
As long as it works, I don't mind how it's called.

Hope this helps.

Firefox plugins can be found in Windows Explorer
Jan 16, 2005 10:12PM PST

Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox\plugins. To see if java is installed look for the following files:NPJAVA11.dll,NPJAVA12.dll,NP-JAVA13.dll,NPJAVA32.dll and NPJPI141_01.dll. For some reason, perhaps to limit the coding, the help feature "plugins" which is typical for Netscape and Mozilla is missing. You have to look in the "Plugin" folder as described above to see what you have in Firefox. For other add ons look under Tools\Extensions
on your Firefox screen.

You already got good advice and
Jan 16, 2005 11:22PM PST

and my post doesn't help the question but I'm adding this link for anybody that happens to read this thread. This link automatically checks your version of java, including whether it is MS or Sun and which version you have and whether or not it is the latest version. I see people ask often in this forum, "how do I know which/if I have java". This link will answer that question.

Tom, Check For Firefox Java This Way...
Jan 18, 2005 4:19AM PST

...Ss mentioned by others, the "Firefox" option won't display in the Control Panel/Java Plugin icon...But if the the current Java is install you probably already have it running as default in Firefox..Check it this way...Open Firefox and in the address bar, type this: about: plugins, (no spaces between any letters or after the colon) then click on the "Go" button. All of the current "default" plug ins for Firefox will be displayed on the screen..Java should be there.

Hope this helps.

I Went to about:plugins

Every thing under the enabled heading says yes with the exeption of this.

MIME type-*
Description-Mozilla default plugin
Suffixes-*
Enabled-No

I don't know if there is any significance to this.

Thanx,
Tom

Notice the yellow face after about.I don't know how that got there,I typed (not sure what it's called)colon or semi colon,It won't go away

The "smiley" face is caused automatically by the forum software when you type the ":" with a "p" next to it..so it looks like Silly instead of : p which is what you see if you leave a single space between the two characters.

In regards to the "Mozilla Default Plugin" not being enabled, I have the same settings, although it can be either way. If I remember correctly, the "Default Plugin" associates with mime types and extensions that aren't covered by the other plug ins and is enabled if the user previously had Mozilla installed.

Hope this helps.
