would it be realistic to say that most web conetnt is connected in some way with either Java or Adobe Flash player? Just curious

Probably Not

There is no doubt a LOT would be associated in some way or another with Java, but to say "most" is likely pushing it. As for Adobe Flash I don't think it would break a few percent.

Keeping in mind you said most web content, so that is everything, everywhere...

It just seems whenever I'm on a website, it seems like flash player is related to whatever video is run

Yup a lot do

A lot of sites with video use Flash, but the vast majority of sites I visit don't have any video at all, did you mean in the your first post, is most video content on the Internet Java and Adobe Flash Player related.

Even then it would likely be no, perhaps yes to the little video ads and stuff, not really sure, but in just video, there is a LOT and I mean an awful lot that is not flash related.

I have been finding more sites, like stores with interactive pages are flash, and slow, and annoying, but that is another story Happy They love the wiz-bang but won't pay for the infrastructure to support it...

may Most is not the correct way to say it

but surely, as you say a lot of ads and stuff are flash it seems, like on yahoo and even here on CNET

Good to have

Java and Adobe are both required for typical www surfing. Even, if not used on one site it surely will on another sooner or later. So, keep both updated as well to best use them as they are also a route for malware entry. That alone suggests its popular enough to be a candidate for such uses. Again, maintain them and its use will be available when needed.

More JavaScript than Java
Sep 3, 2010 11:56AM PDT

Yes, videos use flash a lot of the time, like youtube, etc., but JavaScript gets much more use than Java. Java itself is very resource intensive, so it isn't used as much as flash or JavaScript. You can do quite a lot without getting into using Java per-se.

If you go into your browser options and turn off Java but leave JavaScript on, you'll get most of the interesting stuff.

so if you turn off Java Script....

as some suggest, then you could find that you do not get what you want when you access certain webpages?

javascript and flash
Sep 12, 2010 7:34PM PDT

It's JavaScript, not Java, they are different things.
People use JavaScript mainly in some interact features of their websites, for example, in a form.
And use Adobe Flash in their websites' banner, web page games and video content.
