Question

Java 7 incompatible with Power School program

Oct 22, 2013 12:32PM PDT

Hi,
I'm a teacher and I work from home entering grades in the Power School Program, by Pearson, which needs the Java Program. I had Java 6 and it was working fine. I got prompted to upgrade to Java 7. After I did that the Program does not work properly; it will not launch the gradebook. I have a Pc with Windows XP. I was told touninstall Java 7 and reinstall Java 6. The problem is that Oracle does not support Java 6 any longer and to download it I have to go to other sites. I tried to download it from Download.com but it tries to download other things such as a toolbar. I am not quite sure if I am supposed to do that or not. Can I get some help?

Hi!
Thank you so much for responding! I went to the Archive but when I tried to do download it, it gave me two choices for Windows (I have Windows XP):
Windows x64 59.96 MB and Windows x86 69.85 MB
Which one would I choose?

Thank you so much for all your help.

(NT) 99.99% or higher of XP users would pick x86.

Since Java 7 is out for more than a year already, maybe Pearson had an update that's compatible with it. Did you ask them?

They use the latest version of Power School, which is available in the whole county of Aiken, South Carolina. I heard they are working on Power School but the problem is not solved yet.
Thank you for the reply!
