Java 6 Update 21

by VoNs2010 / July 16, 2010 2:40 AM PDT

HP Desk Top PC
Vista Home Premium 32 bit with updated Vista service pack

Last night I removed Java 6 update 20 from my computer. Removed it via the add/uninstall function from the vista Control Panel.
I then rebooted the computer to make sure Java was deleted, which it was.

Then went to home page to download the java 6 update 21, and Installed directly from the java website
All appears to have installed correctly. C:\Program Files\Java showed the 6 update 21 version
And when I went the check your version of java page, it indicated that I have Java 6 update 21

But I noticed that I had a folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java

Is it normal for there to be a java folder in both C:\Program Files\ AND in C:\Program Files\Common Files ?

I notice that C:\Program Files\Java\bin has the java.exe file among many other java files, so that sounds cool
But in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java has the jusched.exe and all the java files involved with checking for updates.
These files are not located in C:\Program Files\Java\bin

Thinking it was an error, I uninstalled and reinstalled java 6 update 21 with the same results

So does this appear normal to have :\Program Files\Common Files\Java and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java ?
When I had Java 6 update 20, all those files were located in C:\Program Files\Java\bin

The java folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files which contain jusched.exe and a few others is

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Update

(NT) That's normal & is nothing to worry about.

like that it wasn't like that with the last update
Does Java switch up where it sends items from update to update?

first thanks for the reply. Just for further clarity

have any others who just installed Java 6 Update 21 noticed that
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Update
contains jusched.exe, jucheck.exe, and other files associated with updating but these are NOT in C:\Program Files\Java\ in the bin folder

Yes, It Was Previously In The "bin" Folder But....

...the purpose of the files you've mentioned are primarily the same. The files you're seeing are indeed part of the Sun Java update scheduler. Sun apparently decided they wanted the files to reside in the Common Files directly.. Maybe it was glitching in the other location but either way, it shouldn't affect the general operations of the computer.

Hope this helps.
