Jaunty Printing and other - Not ready for prime time.

Oct 3, 2009 7:11AM PDT

I have two lexmark printers, optra c and an Optra Lxi that now do not print via TCP/IP. I had Hardy Heron installed on my T40 Thinkpad prior then upgraded to intrepid then to Jaunty. What a mistake. Video playback is of poorer quality and plenty of small things. Go to Launchpad and no one can answer questions... If you are tired of Windows and wish to experiment with Ubuntu, I would recommend Hardy Heron.

The purpose of Ubuntu and other easy-to-install

Ubuntu, PCOS, PCBSD, DesktopBSD are all for migrating users from Windows or macintosh to Linux without throwing them into a world of CLI and bash.

Launchpad purpose

Launchpad is there for reporting bugs, not for getting answers to your questions.

I'm still not having any troubles printing across my network, and there is no noticeable change in video playback.

Hardy is great if you don't mind being behind the times, but the changes between Ubuntu 9.10 and 8.04 are massive, especially when you look at mobile broadband, software selection and drivers.

Ubuntu have CUPS for network printing and I never had problems with video playback.

What kind of video you try play?
If you try to play patented format in USA you have to pay patent fees and it is impossible to play mp3, wmv some others for free. In EU you can download additional codecs for free legally, but for obvious reasons those things can not become included inside Ubuntu disk. This can make Ubuntu download illegal in USA and some other countires.

What kind of printer you have? I think you just try to use windows print system on Unix like system what is simply wrong way you have to set up CUPS.
