Question

Ivy Bridge Question

Apr 5, 2012 2:41AM PDT

If Intel announces or releases its Ivy Bridge Chipset on April 29 will I be able to go onto one of the many online retailers and order one that day, or will it be available for purchase at a later date? I'm in the process of building a new pc and would wait to get Ivy Bridge if it comes out at the end of the month, but would probably just go with a Sandy Bridge if I'd have to wait until June or July.

Answer
Why yes, of course if anyone has such for sale.

But given the device has yet to be tested in depth why are you willing to be an early adopter? We've been here before.

Answer
New architecture will be bigger deal

They are just shinking the die from 32nm to 22nm, some improvement but will basically still be just a slightly better Sandy Bridge chip. Will be a bigger deal when they release new architecture in the next cycle.
