iTunes Won't Burn a CD of music

Aug 3, 2010 1:35AM PDT

I have a Windows XP Professional Acer computer. The product Level 3 is Veriton M460. I have recently downloaded the software for ION EZ Vinyl/Tape Converter. It automatically tranfers the cassette tape music to iTunes, which is the only option apparently.
My problem is that I can't burn onto a CD. A notice comes up that indicates that the registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs' and DVDs'are missing. This apparently can happen if there is other CD burning software on my computer. I do have Nero and Windows Media Player. It worked fine for burning 4 cassete tapes though. However now iTunes indicates that the "Disc Recording and Audio CD" is not found. The Optical Drive is detected however.
I even burned one CD using Windows Media Player. Then it wouldn't burn again!
Please help. I am a baby boomer who does not want to loose access to my old taped music!
Thank you SO much,
Pinto

Tried Uninstalling, then Reinstalling iTunes?
Aug 3, 2010 2:35AM PDT

And most importantly, if it worked correctly before with this same configuration, it shouldn't stop working unless something has changed. Maybe you installed or uninstalled one of the software types recently? If so, then you may need to follow the steps in the link below to eliminate the "Upper and Lower Filters" in the registry. Incorrect registry entries in this area can cause the drive to appear to be missing to the various burning software types.:

Follow the instructions in the link below to remove upper and lower filters from the registry. After following the steps below, you may need to uninstall, then reinstall the burning software to allow it to correctly work again.:

Hope this helps.

iTunes
Aug 11, 2010 5:47AM PDT

Thank you SO much Grif. It took me a few days to get back to the computer, but can now burn downloaded cassette tapes!
Now I have another problem though. I can no longer use my Mozilla Firefox since iTunes was reinstalled. If I uninstall and reinstall Firefox, will I loose current bookmarks etc.?
I don't want to loose "The Moody Blues"LOL,but I also need Firefox onboard.
Any help would be so appreciated.

The Bookmarks Usually Remain After the Uninstall/Reinstall..
Aug 12, 2010 11:44AM PDT

...of Firefox but there are no guarantees.. The best preventative of such is to make a copy of your bookmarks like this.. Using Firefox 3.6.8, click on "Bookmarks" in the upper left, choose "Organize Bookmarks", then "Import and Backup", then "Export HTML".. Follow the prompts to export the "Bookmarks.html" file to your "My Documents" folder where it can be "Imported" later if the need arises.

Hope this helps.

I'm Stuck!
Aug 15, 2010 6:09AM PDT

Can't open my current Firefox site at all, therefore cannot save anything, such as bookmarks. Is my only option now to uninstall Firefox and re-install and grit my teeth?
I think I'm going to change my user name from Pinto to Miniature Horse!!LOL

Well, If Firefox Won't Open...

...then you're best bet is to uninstall, then reinstall. But there is still a way to find and save your information, IF you're feeling insecure about it.. The bookmarks, etc. are stored in a separate folder from the installation files. Read the instructions in the link below..

To Uninstall Firefox Or Not to Uninstall
Aug 30, 2010 1:34AM PDT

Tks. SO much Grif. I re-installed Firefox without loosing anything! I cannot burn the cassette tapes from iTunes, but I am exporting them to Windows Media Player and burning them with success!
Now all my baby boomer friends have asked me to convert theirs. A new career??LOL
