But here goes. If you rip content from CDs with WMP it has a setting that will cause exactly this issue. READY?
Look around for the "Protect my content" check box. In some versions it was set on by default and people screamed as they found out they could not move content to other machines or even iTunes.

Hello there everyone,
My girlfriend just got a new iPad and is having some issues...
She is a music teacher and has a lot of audio files on her laptop in Windows Media Player. Sorted just how she lies them, and most are burned from CD's.
She got an iPad to help her teach so she can have sheet music and accompanying audio files all in one easily portable place.
She started up iTunes and imported her audio files but less than half of the files were recognized by iTunes. All of the files are in recognizable formats, some files from certain CD's copied when others didn't.
These are primarily "karaoke" tracks so it is not like they are highly pirated singles.
So I guess I have 2 questions:
1. Any idea why this would happen?
2. Is there any way to easily add these missing files (literally hundreds) en masse as opposed to modifying each file individually?
