iTunes Media folder updating to library

Jul 20, 2012 12:12AM PDT

I have the media folder changed to a drive that is attached to my wireless router to use as a NAS.

I uploaded all my music to it and them plan to add music to it and have itunes in turn, update my library.

It hasnt done it yet. The stuff I added has not shown up yet in my library.

My question is how does this work?
Do i have to manually update the library to show any new files that I have added? So I would have to copy the music to my media folder, and then copy it to my library.

Does iTunes update the library automatically and it just hasn't yet?

Is there a place or setting to schedule when the auto update runs?

Any help would be great.

Using iTunes 10.6.3.25

First. It's far from automatic.

Let's say I put my new music into some folders on a NAS but don't use iTunes. iTunes does not, on its own scan the drive/folder and add content.

If you add such in iTunes, then it would be in your iTunes library.

And to make matters more fun, the library is not the music. It's just the catalog. Folk explode over how this works at times but hope this helps you find a way to make your custom system work.
