iTunes deleted: need to download music from iPod

The iTunes content on my G4 laptop got deleted. My iPod is set up to automatically sync with iTunes when it is plugged in. If I plug my iPod... it will be wiped clean. How can I keep iTunes from automatically syncing my iPod? Help!

and set the preferences for sync to Manual. Do not connect the iPod until you have done this.=
The auto-sync feature is one of the major sources of frustration with the iPod.

I think there has been a change to iTunes software that, when you connect a full iPod to and empty Mac, it will ask if you want to sync. If you go this route, be sure to hit the Cancel button.

Google for software to move tracks back onto your laptop from the iPod. Senuti springs to mind, it's free.

moving music from iPod to iTunes

Thanks for the information. I downloaded Senuti and it worked like a charm. The free download lets you transfer 1000 songs. So, when I hit the limit I went ahead and purchased it. It was well worth the $18 to have all of my music back in iTunes. The titles, genre, albums, artists, dates... were all intact. I cannot praise this application enough!
