itunes and java update installation problems

May 12, 2010 8:35AM PDT

I have a new Dell inspiron 1564with windows 7 pre-installed.

I get an error message when I try to install iTunes or java update - "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package." I googled it and it seems to be common bug. How do I fix it?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

for the recommendation. I posted the question yesterday on a java forum, haven't got a response yet, but am hopeful. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
